CoreValue’s Expertise in HIPAA and Medical IT Solutions

In the United States, data privacy legislation tends to be enacted largely due to the needs of a particular industry or sector of the population. Knowing and understanding how this compliance method is applied has become one of the key components of software outsourcing for medical organizations. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is the first thing that should be kept in mind when talking about data privacy in the healthcare industry.

Compliance Moves to the Front Seat

To discover what HIPAA requires from an information security perspective, you must become familiar with 45 CRF Part 160 legislation, as well as Subparts A and C of Part 164.  Of the greatest significance for outsourcers is the section dedicated to “technical safeguards and audit controls” which define the required activities that must be tracked and audited relevant to Patient Healthcare Information. Documentation and implementation of these controls, along with tools selection and review/capture of the appropriate information, is of utmost importance.

Sounds complicated? Not for us!

Review the following tried and tested checklist by our experts that includes these detailed guidelines:

  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of all electronic protected health information (ePHI), including the protection of patient privacy through the encryption of medical records.
  • Protect against reasonably anticipated threat or hazard to ePHI which an entity creates, receives, maintains or transmits.
  • Deliver visibility, control and detailed auditing information of any data transfer.
  • Protect against reasonably anticipated use or disclosure of ePHI, including loss prevention of confidential medical records via removable devices.
  • Confirm that the organization’s entire workforce complies with HIPAA standards to ensure that the threat of data being stolen for financial gain will be minimized.
  • Review security measures as often as needed to ensure reasonable and appropriate protection of ePHI.

Security Strategy

Your IT department should be aware of the adequate steps needed to prevent unauthorized and unlawful access to the medical records. We propose to look closely to the following steps:

  • Employee education. Employees should be properly trained on HIPAA compliance, its impact and how to handle personal information.  Also, all employees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement, as well as undergo criminal background checks and drug testing. Businesses that deal with healthcare-related projects should have dedicated personnel specially allocated to enforce HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Network traffic monitoring. Security tools with advanced traffic pattern analysis and intrusion detection is a must-have.
  • Effective encryption practice. Encrypt laptops and implement strong passwords for devices that store protected health information (PHI). Mobile devices which store PHI should be given the strongest levels of protection.
  • Data backup. If some or all of a system’s files are encrypted, restoring those files from a backup is the only recovery option.
  • Security system upgrades. To remain compliant with HIPAA regulations, all systems that may contain PHI are required to remain current with all patches and up to date.
  • Access restrictions. Implement a strong restricted-access plan to determine which users need access to PHI and give privileges to only those employees who need it.
  • No long-term data storing where not required. Reduce the possibility that employees who leave the company can steal important data and take it with them to a different employer.
  • Third-party vendor. Audit systems frequently and employ third-party vendors to attempt system penetration and perform security drills.

7 Reasons To Love Salesforce Lightning

As a significant upgrade to the Salesforce platform, Salesforce Lightning helps your reps sell faster, smarter, and with more efficiency and productivity. It is not only about the refreshed new user interface for better user experience, but about an array of enhancements that allow your reps to work with better information, and ultimately help your business grow.

Here are 7 of the best new features that you should explore in Salesforce Lightning.

  1. Account Insights features
    • Customizable home pages that present information and work needed by individual users right at login.
    • Timely news articles about existing accounts so that reps can be always informed and on track.
    • Automatically updated account information that requires no additional effort.
    • Task prioritization that helps reps focus on and monitor the most important items to accomplish daily, weekly or monthly with the quarterly performance chart.

      2. Assistant displays leads dynamically assigned to reps during the course of the day, top opportunities that need attention, and task status right on the homepage.

      3. Opportunity Workspace, in conjunction with Sales Path customization, is the go-to place that helps reps manage almost everything within a sales funnel from initial opportunity to completion, showing the concrete steps needed for action at just the proper stage all along the way.

      4. Kanban View enables your reps to easily see and update any opportunity list. Additionally, reps may drag-and-drop opportunities between stages to have a latest update on a pipeline — all without leaving a page.

      5. Enlarged Dashboards allow users to design dashboards with more than four columns for greater accessibility to information and functionality. With the added ability to drag and drop, add, and size dashboard components with up to 20 components, this enhancement provides limitless possibilities for dashboard configuration.

      6. Salesforce Lightning Design System gives businesses the ability to design and build device-agnostic apps for customer applications that look and feel like other Salesforce core features.  It eliminates the need to reverse engineer applications to reflect the Salesforce style, and since it is available as an open source project on Github, businesses can achieve the same look and feel for all of their apps.

       7. Smart, Dynamic Views feature improved analytics, but also retains the views which are most commonly accessed by each user.

Salesforce Lightning can significantly enhance the processes of selling and decision making, as well as making your workforce the most effective it can possibly be.

Launch Your Mobile App Fast and Clean with Salesforce1 Lightning!

Mobile applications deliver innovation faster and with better results. Salesforce1 Lightning, a new feature from Salesforce.com, makes it even easier to build those applications on any screen or device.

With its unique set of tools and technologies, Lightning can push your apps running on Salesforce1 to mobile devices at a faster speed. Here’s how!

  • Lightning App Builder has point-and-click functionality that allows you to customize your pages in Salesforce1 fast and with little development effort. Combine your components on a single page to access everything you use from one location.
  • Lightning Component Framework utilizes a reach component ecosystem that replicates key experiences from page to page and avoids additional duplication overhead. Lightning Components work either as Tabs or as Lightning Extensions, but can also use JavaScript on the client side, and Apex on the Server side, to enhance your creativity when building mobile apps.
  • Lightning Schema Builder makes the task of designing, implementing, and modifying your data model both easy and clean. Schema Builder gives you the ability to view and modify objects and relationships in your app through its dynamic environment.
  • Lightning Connect eliminates the need to use those cumbersome middleware tools that are currently required for connection. It also removes the necessity of having to make Salesforce data copies when pulling data in real time from SAP, Microsoft and Oracle. Users will be able to access updated stats and records whenever they have need.
  • Lightning Process Builder provides you with a swift and efficient method to build effect, time-saving workflows for all of those tedious routines that occur daily throughout your environment. All it takes is a few clicks.

With more than 45 certified Salesforce professionals, CoreValue can help make the most of Salesforce 1 Lightning for a fast launch of your mobile app.

Thinking about enabling Lightning Experience?

Lightning Experience is the sleek, modern interface that helps your sales reps sell faster and smarter. It includes entirely redesigned pages as well as many new features, such as

  • A customizable homepage that can improve user experience by presenting information and work needed for you right at login.
  • Enlarged dashboards allowing you to design dashboards with more than three columns for greater accessibility to information.
  • Smart, dynamic views featuring improved analytics and retention of the views that are most commonly accessed by you, and many others.

But you should remember that not every Salesforce feature is supported in Lightning Experience.

Here are two variants of how a standard Lead page would look in Salesforce Classic and Salesforce Experience.

The advantage of Example 2 is evident. Lead information flowing through the funnel can be quickly analyzed and used to enable your sales rep to identify at just what stage in the sales process it shows. Lead “news” flows into the dashboard where it can be quickly analyzed and used to enable your sales rep to engage the lead in a more effective manner.

However, the decision whether or not to adopt Lightning Experience will depend on your existing apps.  For example, what if you have an app that works well in Salesforce Classic?  Should you migrate to Lightning? The answer will depend on whether or not the app is built on custom Visualforce pages. If so, you have already invested time and effort to customize what you need, and may not wish to go down that path again.

Another issue relates to whether or not you utilize standard pages, e.g., contacts, accounts, etc. In that case, you can easily switch to Lightning without extra effort.

Of course, migration to Lightning in either case presents some inconvenience.  End-users will need to spend time becoming accustomed to the new interface, causing a temporary lag behind in productivity.  To see how the new UI might look and feel without enabling Lightning Experience, try a preview through the Lightning Experience Migration Assistant.

On the other hand, if you need to build a new mobile app from scratch in a matter of minutes, Lightning Experience is for you.  Salesforce1 Lightning allows you to build and customize employee and customer-facing applications for a variety of devices — even wearables — swiftly and easily via a “drag and drop” interface.

Lightning in practice – a Case Study

A client needed connectivity between Lightning Salesforce responsive pages and mobile native features, including contact lists to allow sales representatives to manage their customers more efficiently.

By using Salesforce Lightning, CoreValue’s Salesforce team provided a responsive application that leverages the HTML5/AJAX user experience provided by the Lightning Component framework. This was wrapped with a Native App and the native features connector to provide access to a phone/tablets contact list.  The solution dramatically increased the effectiveness of sales representatives and Salesforce adoption by removing the necessity to manage contact lists directly in Salesforce.

There were both pros and cons to this solution.

On the pro-side, reusable Lightning Components provide the ability to replicate key experiences from page to page without additional duplication overhead.  Lightning Components also provide a responsive user experience off the shelf, as well as adding the ability to leverage connectivity to native features.  This connectivity allows tight integration of apps with operating systems and hardware, e.g., access to contacts, mail, maps, and hardware features including camera, microphone, etc.

On the con-side, Lightning Component’s impressive capabilities, which include reusable components and a unified look and feel across different platforms, still do not allow effective offline access.  This can be an inconvenience for end users who require those functionalities.

Summary

For businesses who

  • are relatively new to Salesforce and have not yet exploited all the bells and whistles of the platform, or
  • intend to reset their Salesforce implementation and introduce brand-new functionalities with a modern look and feel,

Salesforce Lightning can speed the process of adoption and customization so that your workforce can be as effective as possible.

Avoid expensive third-party apps for Salesforce through smart custom development

In today’s competitive business world, great marketing and sales departments are not enough to succeed. You also need effective data analysis that can provide the kind of actionable insight your whole team can use to achieve maximum productivity.

Salesforce currently dominates the Cloud CRM market, but while the platform is capable of providing massive leverage for your business with its extensive built-in feature set, there are still some “industry-specific” things it cannot do right out of the box. This is where the huge collection of add-ons and plugins in SalesforceAppExchange comes to the rescue.

However, the purchase of those apps often present another unwanted problem — the high cost of annual or monthly user fees. Moreover, those fees can become an even bigger drag on your long term finances when your team grows and your monthly or annual costs grow with it.

There is a much more cost effective and efficient alternative — build your own custom solution. Although you may shy away from custom development because it seems like a time consuming effort, there are distinct benefits:

  • the ability to eliminate thousands of dollars in monthly or annual user fees for 3d party apps;
  • the ability to create a solution that is fine-tuned to your exact demands without unnecessary bells and whistles;
  • the ability to retain full control over the created add-on, including all pages and classes;
  • familiarity with the code and overall structure of the solution for later adjustments;
  • the ability to avoid the risks of a 3d party app being broken or not supported anymore, and having no ability to fix it.

To illustrate the point, consider gamification apps. In sales context, gamification is the technique of turning everyday activities, such as phone calls, emails, deals closed, leads converted, etc., into a fun and engaging competition. Some of the popular gamification apps are LevelEleven, Hoopla, PowerDialer, and Ambition. However, many of these apps come with hefty price tags. Such a cost is not what you expect from an ordinary gamification app.

When a client approached us for help with just this problem, CoreValue built a custom gamification solution that enabled easy competition setup, as well as tracking desired metrics and performance. The client decided on the look and feel of the solution, data model, and overall functionality. As a result, the solution saved our client almost 30%.

With more than 45 certified Salesforce professionals, CoreValue can help make the process as smooth as can be and guarantee optimal results.
